Sixth Form Community Action Project

On Thursday, 29 June Rendcomb College’s Lower Sixth students completed a community action project at Paternoster House care home in Cirencester.

The day was part of the students’ Moving On Week where they learn skills for life after school and prepare for university.

Assistant Head of Sixth Form at Rendcomb College, Alice Wyndow, said: “It was great to see the students all working together to make a beautiful and tranquil garden for the residents. It was lovely to see some of the students sitting and interacting with some residents, encouraging them to paint their own 'memory pebbles' for the garden. The students had to work hard in most cases and should be pleased how happy the residents are with the final product.”

During the community action day, the students worked in the Paternoster House’s garden to clear sections of it and pull out weeds so that the residents could enjoy spending time in it.

The students also took time to speak to some of the residents, asking them about what they would wish to see within their new garden.

The biggest job of the day consisted of clearing a huge section of garden to form a ‘fairy garden’. The students painted pebbles and placed them around the edge of the area, before adding wind chimes and spinners to enhance the magical feel. The students also painted the old summer house to give it a fresh new look and employed their creativity skills to paint a bright mural on one of the fences.
