"A Day in the Life of a Rendcomb College Boarder."
Each and every student at Rendcomb College brings something unique to our warm, supportive and academically ambitious boarding school. In turn, we deliver a truly vibrant and dynamic experience to bring out the best in our pupils who strive to make the most of their time at Rendcomb with our boarding facilities that offer a wide range of opportunities for all to enjoy. We ensure that a typical day balances structured learning covering a breadth of subjects with co-curricular activities, and downtime for relaxation and socialisation. From morning to night the boarding routine changes day to day to provide variety and spark creativity and inspiration.
Morning Routine
The day in the life of a boarder begins with a wake-up call in one of our three on-site houses which are surrounded by 230 acres of stunning countryside and heritage in the heart of the Cotswolds. This home away from home is where they’ll begin their day, alongside fellow students, in a bright, cheerful and clean environment where they feel a real sense of community. A healthy breakfast will be served in the dining hall before 8am (later hours at the weekend) which will set them up for the day with a nutritious start. There may be times when a short house meeting may be carried out for any in-house administration that needs sharing.
School Day
Whilst every day is different from one to the next, boarding school life begins with morning classes covering a variety of academic subjects such as Maths, English, Sciences, Geography, History and languages, just to name a few, in keeping with the educational curriculum. We pride ourselves on our small classes with a maximum of 20 children to allow individuals to have dedicated support to help them flourish in their studies.
The modern facilities using the latest technologies along with our driven yet approachable teaching staff is what makes Rendcomb College a leading UK boarding school. We encourage students to reach their full potential through collaboration, creation and communication which is made possible with all the outstanding features and tools we provide. This includes our £3.3million performing arts centre and state-of-the-art laboratories that bring the world of science and arts to life.
Break times are always beneficial for respite and these vary in times depending on what year the pupil is in. As for lunch, this is a communal experience in the dining hall which offers a wide variety of meal options to cater for different dietary needs and requirements with alternate options every day. This includes a fresh salad bar, cold meats, homemade soup, cheese, fruit, and we guarantee that the menu changes every three weeks so you won’t get tired of the same dishes. Plus we understand the importance and excitement of celebrations throughout the year and take great joy in preparing lunches for Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is an opportunity for pupils to interact with peers from other year groups and encourage new friendships.
Following lunch, classes continue determined by their year group and any upcoming examinations, which help build upon their existing knowledge and skillset for each pupil to excel in these subjects. Then at the end of the school day, pupils can choose from over 100 co-curricular activities that elevate and enrich their boarding school life experience. This ranges from photography to choir, chess, enterprise and sailing.
Evening Routine
As the evening draws in students return to the dining room for a meal that includes all major food groups to enhance the pupils’ nutrition in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by their friends and classmates. This informal setting allows them to build strong friendships and camaraderie before heading back to their set boarding house for supervised study time, completing homework or working on individual projects. We believe in providing as much support as possible, especially when away from family and friends and do this with the guidance of pastoral care, boarding staff and tutors if academic assistance is required. Rendcomb College boarding isn’t just about education, it’s about enjoying downtime too with friends, hobbies and games in a safe space where they can socialise, watch TV, and make the most of their free time in an enjoyable yet progressive and fulfilling way.
When looking at boarding schools that offer a holistic approach to education and a welcoming place for new boarders to move into, Rendcomb College is a leading choice with our well-kept grounds, high-quality offering inside and out of the classroom, and excellent academic results and inspections. We want all pupils to thrive at Rendcomb College and achieve this with our intuitive offering that creates memorable experiences.
