Rendcomb Foundation Regulatory Notice:

RENDCOMB COLLEGE FOUNDATION (REGISTERED CHARITY NUMBER 311713) (THE “FOUNDATION”)
CONSULTATION NOTICE

Background
The Foundation’s current charitable purposes are to advance the education of pupils attending Rendcomb College (the College) by (a) providing land and buildings for the use of the College and (b) making contributions towards the College’s operating costs.
With the closure of the College on 3 July 2026, it is no longer possible to further these purposes. The trustees of the Foundation are therefore preparing an application to be submitted to the Charity Commission for consent to amend the charitable purposes.

Proposed new charitable purposes
The proposed new charitable purposes are: “the advancement of education for the public benefit (including, but not limited to, the support of schools for the education of young people).”

After careful consideration, the trustees consider that this change to the current charitable purpose would be in the best interests of the Foundation, reflecting that the focus would still be on supporting the education of young people. The essence of the Foundation’s current purposes is to support the education of pupils attending the College. Prior to closure, a charitable company called Rendcomb College operated the College, the charitable purposes of which are (in summary) “to advance education for the public benefit, including (but not limited to) the provision and maintenance of school(s) for the education of young persons”.

Proposed sale of College site
Following the closure of the College, the site can no longer be used to further the current charitable purposes. Once the charitable purposes have been amended with Charity Commission consent, the trustees are intending to sell the College site so that the proceeds of sale can be applied to support the new charitable purposes.
