The two Mayor’s Charities to be supported by this concert are:
The Pied Piper Appeal was started in 1992 by Peter Hickman, a local Businessman to build a new Children’s Hospital in Gloucestershire. It opened as the Children’s Centre in 2004 attached to the Gloucester Royal Hospital and since then Pied Piper has continued to make a difference to the sick and disabled children in the County by supplying equipment to the Children’s Centre, the Special schools in Gloucestershire such as Milestones and Bettridge, send Children with life limiting or terminal illnesses and their families on Wish holidays and support children with mental health issues.
The Cheltenham Animal Shelter has been serving the local community for over 90 years, rescuing and rehoming stray and unwanted cats, dogs and small animals. At their Gardner’s Lane site they care for around 100 animals a day providing comfort, food, training and veterinary care whilst seeking new homes and adopters. Funded solely by public generosity through donations or using the facilities at the Shelter – including grooming, boarding and a pet supply shop as well as a very successful charity shop – they require £650,000 a year to operate.
