Travel and Tourism
From September 2017 Rendcomb College will add Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism to the choice of Sixth Form options. The course is the equivalent to an A Level and is delivered in a vocational style.
Travel and Tourism is the study of one of the largest service sectors in the world and one of the broadest. Travel and Tourism as a subject covers a range of different topics and is specifically designed for those with an interest in one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest growing industries. In particular it will suit students who have an interest in culture, travelling and the world around them.
Over the two year course, students will have the chance to participate in work experience style learning and have the opportunity to go on an overseas residential trip. The course is far more practically based that the traditional A Level with an emphasis on communication skills and independent learning.
This qualification is designed to support students who are interested in learning about the travel and tourism industry alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in travel and tourism related subjects.
Students would need at least a C grade in English and Maths at GCSE as well as good research and computer skills. Those students who are able to organise their work efficiently and meet deadlines will perform well and should be able to target the top grades.
The BTEC is assessed using a combination of internal assessments, which are set and marked by teachers, and external assessments which are set and marked by the exam board.
What does this course go well with?
The BTEC can be studied alongside a variety of A Levels but is particularly suited to Business, Languages and Humanities subjects.
