2020 Centenary

Rendcomb College celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020. Below are the details  of how Rendcomb College, its pupils, parents, Governors, teachers, Old Rendcombians and alumni will mark the anniversary.

Centenary Celebration

Taking place on Saturday, 4 July 2020, the Centenary Celebration will be a grand celebration of 100 years since Rendcomb College was founded. This event will take place on the same day as the Old Rendcombian Society's cricket match and AGM - so why not make a day of it?!

Tickets are £30 for adults and 16+, £15 for under 16s and free for under 5s. Tickets include a meal and a drink, live entertainment and free camping at Top Pitch if required. 

Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics and drinks.

Lent Term 2020

Wednesday, 29 to Friday, 31 January
WE WILL ROCK YOU School Edition – 7pm

The College’s biennial musical will be performed in the Griffin Theatre. The worldwide smash hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton is guaranteed to blow your mind! Featuring more than 20 hit Queen songs including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Killer Queen,” “We Will Rock You,” “Somebody To Love,” “We Are the Champions,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and many more, WE WILL ROCK YOU follows two young rebels as they try to restore rock ‘n’ roll to “the iPlanet” in a post-apocalyptic world. WE WILL ROCK YOU is a musical for our time: a fist-pumping, foot-stomping anthem to individuality.

Friday, 20 March
Centenary Lecture – 8.15am - The Rendcomb Park Estate

Parents, pupils, staff and the public are welcome to join us for a Centenary Lecture given by Martin Graham who taught history for many years at Rendcomb. He will be giving a talk about the history of the Rendcomb Park Estate. Please email: marketing@rendcombcollege.org.uk to book a seat.

Throughout 2020 we will hold Centenary Lectures in the Griffin Theatre with talks given by former students, staff and friends of the College. These events will be free of charge.

The Roaring 20s – Parents’ Association Celebration Evening

Organised by the Rendcomb College Parents’ Association, this 20s themed evening will be held in Main College.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tuesday, 24 March
Choral Society Concert – 7pm in the Reading Room

A Gala concert to celebrate the College’s 100th Anniversary. This year we are delighted to be giving the first performance of a work by John Wright for orchestra, choir and soloists which celebrates our centenary. The concert will be directed by Dr Tom Edwards.

Tuesday, 5 May
Centenary Lecture – 2pm - Rendcomb College - the early years

Parents, pupils, staff and the public are welcome to join us for a Centenary Lecture given by Helen and Julian Comrie who will be interviewed by Revd. Bob Edy. They will be talking about the early years of Rendcomb College up to the 1960s. Please email: marketing@rendcombcollege.org.uk to book a seat.

Concert performance by Old Rendcombian Amy Bladon (2004-08) and her string quartet – 7pm

In the Victorian splendour of the Reading Room, Old Rendcombian,  Amy Bladon and her string quartet provide an evening of classical music excellence. An event not to be missed.

Friday, 22 May
Founder’s Day

The annual event will be held in a marquee on the lawn with speeches from the Chair of Governors, Head of College, Head of Juniors and the Junior and Senior Head Boys and Girls. Our guest speaker for the event will be Old Rendcombian and NASA Mars Rover expert Doug Ellison. 

Thursday, 28 May
Celebration Lunch for Old Rendcombians who attended the College in the first 50 years

A committee of Old Rendcombians are arranging a three-course lunch with coffee for all pupils who attended Rendcomb in the first 50 years (up to and including 1970). It will be an excellent chance to meet up with school friends whom you might not have seen in the last 50 or 60 years.

Junior School Production - The Amazing Adventures of Superstan – 7pm

Years 3-6 pupils in the Junior School perform their musical production in the Griffin Theatre.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream ‘Shakespeare in the Park’

. Cricket and AGM free to attend, Centenary Celebration is £30 for adults, £15 for under 18s and free for under 5s. Free camping will be available at Top Pitch.                

Michaelmas Term 2020

Sunday, 13 September
Heritage Open Day - 1:30pm - 4pm
The Main Building and St. Peter's Church will be open and tours will be given. Refreshments will be in the church and there will a Songs of Praise at 4pm.
