Drama
Confidence comes from self expression
Rendcomb College has always had a reputation for the importance it places on the Creative and Performing Arts. Our unique Orangery Theatre is the venue for a wide range of productions, including those scripted and directed by pupils. There are regular visits to the theatre for all year groups.
All pupils in Forms 1, 2 & 3 have one Drama period per week which focuses on developing practical skills in voice and movement. Drama is a GCSE option an the department teaches the AQA syllabus which is 60% practical coursework and 40% final written exam. A Level Theatre Studies focuses on the practical study of selected texts, production reviews and acting, or technical exam work. In the Michaelmas Term, a Senior School play or musical is performed. Most recent productions include “Les Liaisons Dangereuse”, “Bouncers & Shakers” , “Les Miserables” "Amadeus", "Back to the 80's" and this term's production is "We Will Rock You".
A highlight of the year for GCSE & 6th form students is the annual Drama Tour to London, where they take part in an intensive programme of acting classes and play reviewing. In the Summer Term, forms 1-3 stage a musical. Past performances include “Bugsy Malone” and “Little Shop of Horrors” and most recently “The Demon Headmaster”.
