Physical Education at Rendcomb College provides all pupils the opportunity to develop physical competence, self-esteem and to value the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
Our curricular and extra-curricular sport programme provides pupils with experience of a range of physical activities which should lead to participation in sport for life.
The GCSE and A Level Physical Education courses aim to enhance a pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the factors which affect performance and participation in Sport and Physical Education.
The courses cover a range of topics including physiological, psychological and biomechanical aspects, in addition to addressing contemporary issues such as the use of technology, ergogenic aids including performance enhancing drugs and the increasing commercialisation of sport. The Physical Education curriculum dovetails with a range of subjects notably biology and psychology.
The College boasts extensive grounds including rugby, football and lacrosse pitches, cricket squares, an all-weather astroturf surface and tennis and netball courts.
Indoor facilities include a large Sports Hall, housing badminton, volleyball and basketball courts and a 4 lane cricket net. Squash courts and a fitness and conditioning suite complete the school’s wide range of facilities available to pupils.
The annual Sports Day for Years 7 to 11 gives pupils an opportunity to all meet and compete.
Students at GCSE and A Level will visit specialist sport centres including the University of Bath to enhance their knowledge and see and experience new technologies in sport.
Sport scholarships can be applied for preceding Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12 entry.
