Introducing the Senior School Curriculum
"Pupils respond well to the overall good quality of teaching, having a positive attitude to study" ISI inspection 2008
Excellent teaching and learning is our priority and Rendcomb College is committed to a policy of small class sizes to ensure we can give each pupil the personal care and encouragement needed. Class sizes average 15-18 in the Lower School and often much fewer in the Sixth Form. At the heart of our educational philosophy is the pupil-parent-teacher partnership and parents are keen to be involved in helping pupils realise their full potential.
Most pupils take 10 GCSEs in this two year programme. These subjects are chosen at the end of the Third form (Year 9) after lengthy consultation at a GCSE options evening, with subject teachers, tutors and the Director of Studies. Students normally have a free choice of four subjects beyond the core subjects, though study of at least one modern foreign language is recommended. Most pupils study for Science and Additional Science GCSEs with the more able pupils certificating in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, These subjects are taught in 39 periods of 35 minutes each and two afternoons of games and one period of both PSHE and RE complete the programme.
CORE SUBJECTS: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology
OPTIONAL SUBJECTS (4 chosen from) : Art & Design, Design & Technology, Drama, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, French, Spanish, German
