Those of you who supported our Founder’s Day celebrations will have
heard me speak of those staff who are leaving or retiring at the end of
this year. Mr Denny and Miss Hockley leave the Art Department to
pursue pastures new; we wish them all the best and thank them for all
they have done for the college during their time with us. Mr McKelvey
leaves us after four years in the Music Department to take up promotion
as Director of Music at Our Lady School’s in Abingdon. We thank him
for all his work inside the department, as an effective middle school
tutor and a supportive hockey and tennis coach. Dr Scarisbrick, who
joined us as Director of American Studies and was subsequently promoted
to the posts of Director of Activities and Director of Studies returns
to the United States with her family to pursue her military career.
During her time with us, she has played a significant role in settling
down our American students and their families, organised the
complicated Activities programme and was overall in charge of teaching
and learning in the school. We wish her and her family all the best for
the future. Miss Harries will take over as Director of Activities and
Mr Illingworth as Director of Studies.
Mr Ford retires as Head of Physics at the end of this academic year.
During his time with us, he has held various posts including being
Director of ICT and Head of Examinations. We wish him a long and happy
retirement and thank him for all he has done. Mr Bevans will take over
as Acting Head of Physics.
Sister Hunt who joined the college in 1992 has decided to retire this
summer. She has given exceptional service to the college during her
eighteen years with us in the Medical Centre, where she has provided
first class medical and pastoral support. She will be sorely missed by
a whole generation of Rendcombians and their parents. She takes with
her our best wishes for a long and happy retirement.
We have also made the following appointments for September 2010. Mr
Brooke will take over as Head of RE, Mrs Kinson will take up the
important position of Head of Careers and The Rev’d Simpson will take
over as Chaplain next term. His licensing ceremony will be in the
college chapel, St Peter’s Church on Tuesday 24th August at 7pm. It
would be good if you were able to join us.
You may be aware that a holiday club is running at Rendcomb from 26th
July. Details were included in your end of term mailing and on our web
site. I know that the organisers, who are Rendcomb parents, are very
keen for you to support this new initiative.
Please note the different starting times for various year groups shown in the Michaelmas Term calendar.
May I take this opportunity of wishing you and your families a very restful summer.
With warm best wishes
Gerry Holden
