Students coped with the dark tunnels sensibly in the underground coalmine, took part in a Victorian lesson, visited both middle class and poor houses of the 19th and early 20th centuries, bought sweets, cakes and fish and chips in the traditional Black Country shops and learnt about the role of the Worker’s Institute. The fairground was a popular choice during free time where the collection of rides accurately portrays the Black Country travelling fairs of the first decades of the last century. A trip into Dudley Canal Tunnel and Caverns rounded off our day to create a wonderful experience of our past way of life.
