School life is not all fun and play however; we also do academic work during the day … lots of it!  We are particularly keen to raise parents’ awareness of the importance of homework and I would be grateful if you could support our efforts by signing your child’s homework diary weekly. This enables you to maintain a written dialogue with your child’s tutor, who should have already written to you, to introduce himself/herself and is usually contactable by email. Grades are due to be published this week and this will also give you an indication of what type of start your child has made to this academic year. We are particularly keen to continue our communication with parents over academic matters, so please maintain contact with your child’s tutor on specific issues.  If you have matters of general academic concern, please raise them with Dr Scarisbrick, our Director of Studies.

In other areas of college life, you will be pleased to hear that our rugby and hockey teams have made a good start. We continue to make extensive use of our plasma screen in Saul’s Hall and will be updating our new website on a regular basis. Our RCPA is in the process of establishing a link page where it will publish minutes and forthcoming events. Hot off the press, The Rendcombian, our colourful and action-packed school magazine has just been published and will be distributed through houses to families later on this week. Do let us know if a copy fails to make its way home to you!

We have just held our first Open Day of the season yesterday which was very well attended. I am delighted to report that time-and-time-again I received complimentary comments about your children, our pupils. I am very proud of them and they are a credit to both the college and yourselves.

Thank you for your support at events this term: the new pupils’ service, on the touchline and at the Sixth Form Fair on Friday evening.  Liese and I look forward to meeting with you at our many sporting, cultural and social occasions later in the term.

With warm best wishes,

Gerry Holden
