BUSINESS STUDIES

The department will continue to offer the AQA Business Studies AS/A level course. The Head of Department is an experienced and long established senior examiner for AQA.  The  new AQA course specification for Business Studies builds on the strengths of the previous specification and has been designed to:
• enable candidates to focus on the dynamic nature of the contemporary business world
• provide opportunities for research into topical business issues
• offer opportunities for the development and application of a full range of academic skills.

The Assessment objectives are common to AS and A Level

AO1 - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the specified content
AO2 - Apply their knowledge and critical understanding to problems and issues arising from familiar and unfamiliar situations
AO3 - Analyse problems and issues
AO4 - Evaluate and distinguish between fact and opinion, and assess information from a variety of sources.

AS outline

At AS Level, this specification introduces candidates to the challenges and issues of starting a business, including financial planning. It then explores the key internal functions of business and how the management of these functions can assist in improving the effectiveness and performance of a business.
