Forest School
Forest School sessions take place weekly in our own designated woodland Forest School area. Forest School is a well established approach to learning through outdoor settings. Based upon principles of building confidence, boosting self-esteem and encouraging an appreciation of the natural environment, its benefits can be seen across the age ranges, and it provides lifelong learning and life skill opportunities for all.
Forest School activities are designed in conjunction with the National Curriculum. Children engage in a variety of achievable tasks outside, which range from going on minibeast hunts and collecting natural objects to creative activities, digging, using tools and shelter building.
At Foundation Stage it is successful at developing children’s physical and co-ordination skills as well as their social skills. Children learn to work with others in a group and to express themselves as independent learners. The practical activities enable them to experience numeracy, literacy, science and many other subjects within a stimulating environment.
The sessions take place in all weathers and are flexible in order to make the most of the learning potential that nature provides at any one time.
