Biology
The Biology Department is situated in the College Stable Block and consists of two fully equipped teaching laboratories and a shared teaching room with the Chemistry Dept. There are three specialist Biology staff with a further two staff involved in the General Science course for the first two years. The Dept has a fully qualified laboratory technician. The Head of Dept is a Senior Examiner for Edexcel at both the AS and A2 for the U6th and L 6th exams. The first two years follow the Exploring Science course as part of the General Science specification and this leads on to the foundation course for GCSE in the third year. Years 4 and 5 follow the AQA GCSE specifications with modular exams throughout the course. At A level, proving to be a most popular 6th form choice, the students follow the new Edexcel course including a field week in Snowdonia. Biology at Rendcomb is able to fully utilise the various habitats on the campus and as a result the profile of the subject is very high. Public Examination results at both GCSE and A Level are consistently excellent with candidates securing places at the top universities for Medicine, Veterinary Science and many Biology related courses.
