Science
The Science Department is housed on three sides of the old Stable Block in six well- equipped laboratories. Each subject department has two laboratories and a preparation room and is supported by experienced science technicians.
Pupils study general science in years 1 – 3 and follow the new Pearson Longman ‘Exploring Science’ course. In the third year pupils are taught topics by subject specialists in preparation for their GCSE courses.
In addition, educational visits, for example to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, Techniquest and the Cheltenham Science Festival, enhance the pupils’ interest and understanding of the Science.
The majority of pupils study for the AQA Double Award GCSE in years 4 and 5, although the more able may opt to take GCSEs in the three separate sciences. Both routes prepare pupils for continuing their academic studies at Advanced level.
Science has always been a popular subject at Rendcomb, thanks primarily to the highly qualified and experienced staff who strive to enthuse, inform and educate the imminent scientists of tomorrow.
